Five of Cups tarot card

The Card

A cloaked figure hunches over three spilled cups. Two upright cups stand at their back, unseen. In the distance, a bridge crosses a river to a castle — the way forward exists. The grief is real but it need not be permanent.

Symbolism

The three spilled cups are genuine loss — do not minimize it. The two standing cups are hope — do not lose sight of them. The river is the emotional realm; the bridge is a way across it. The castle is the life that continues on the other side.

Upright

Genuine loss. A figure in a black cloak stares at three spilled cups — but two cups remain standing behind him. This is real grief, real disappointment. It deserves to be felt. But at some point, you must turn and see what still remains.

Reversed

Acceptance of loss, moving forward, focusing on what remains, forgiveness.
